I got engaged in May, which was awesome. As a congrats to myself for undertaking something so nerve wracking, I bought myself a carbon fiber hood for my NA Miata. It was to replace the 38 lb steel hood that was an OEM replacement when the car was repaired sometime in 2007.
Fast forward almost 3 months, it finally arrives and it doesn’t fit. I am disappoint . Photos included so you can be disappoint with me.

If you can't get a replacement/money back, turn this negative into a positive: NACA duct!

O.o
thats an impressive amount of not fit
how did they fuck that up so bad?
do they not have quality control?

Some well- placed hood pins will solve that.

The hood itself isn’t curved enough to fit the car. Sure, hood pins are a solution, but far from an ideal one.

Working with the manufacturer now to figure something out

The gap perfectly illustrates the amount of disappoint.
How is that so fucked up?

Wait, we were supposed to buy OURSELVES a gift when we got engaged? Darn, missed that opportunity

Just cut that part out so the Turbo and it’s antlers can loook out.

change name to “Not A SunBurst LFA”
but for real, that’s irritating!
Even if the company resolves it, based on the original shipping time it’s not going to be quick.

That is impressively mis
shapen
. Hopefully the manufacturer/seller will make it right

Need to file this to the “this might be useful someday” file.

That's messed up. Either the hood warped during curing or the mold was not made to the correct shape.

I cant’t see why hood pins or those bonnet latches wouldn’t work in this case along with your standard hood latch?
Is is that it’s not physically long enough or isn’t the proper shape to reach the latch point, or?
![]() 07/29/2020 at 18:00 |

Would those bonnet latches be a less noticeable solution?

38 lbs . steel hood on a Miata? I think I just puked in my mouth.
Can you share any more info on the carbon hood? Vendor? M anufacturer?

Carbon fiber flexes, doesn’t it? Just needs more force.

Sit the car outside in the sun with something attempting to hold it into the correct form. Unless they are actually going to pay to ship it back.

Didn’t know you could get a Ram Air hood for Miata’s now...
Seriously that is a bummer. Hope there is a fix for it

I know, now I’m wondering what percentage of the cost of the ring it was supposed to be. I might’ve missed out on something good.

congrats on the engagement

Her ring was ~4k, the hood was $700, so like 20%?

There isn’t anything wrong with the OEM replacement steel hood I’ve had on it, so I’m gonna throw that back on until this gets resolved.

its physically not the correct shape. The front of the hood isn’t “bent” or angled enough to even reach the latch mechanism. I don’t want to force it down in case I break the hood.

but what does it weigh?

Could you just sledgehammer the rest of the front end up to meet the bottom of the hood then? :P
In seriousness that sucks.....you’d think if they are building carbon fiber parts for car they’d actually check to make sure their mo
lds are the right shape first....
